The Halite Warriors vs. The Snail
It's called A Snail's Tale - that might lead you to believe that the snail is the main character, but nay, friend. The player takes control of Samson Spligglebarp, the noble descendant of a famed historian who is eager to make his own mark on the world.
Samson travels to the Halite Kingdom to enter King Phillippe's challenge, competing against other adventurers for a chance to be a Halite Warrior. The King reveals that he is eternally pursued by an immortal snail who will never rest until he is destroyed.
And so begins the quest of Samson and his intrepid companions, the Halite Warriors, to gather the three Crystals of Power and stop the snail before he catches the King.
Gameplay
A Snail's Tail is an homage to the JRPGs of the 16-bit era, with turn-based combat and a colorful cast of NPCs to bring the story to life. Level up and battle your way through the denizens of the Crystal Dungeons, monsters guarding the crystals that hold the key to the snail's power.
The twist is that the snail is inching ever closer to the King. Time is ebbing, and every second matters in the race to topple the behemoth. You'll need to be strong to win the fight, even with the crystals in hand, but it takes valuable time to train your skills. Certain items will delay the snail and extend your time, but it'll take careful resource management to save the King.
Class Selection
Although A Snail's Tale wears its inspirations on its sleeve, that doesn't mean it's the same old, same old. Samson is the hero, the leader of the group, but his three companions are customizable, with a list of five character classes to choose from and additional combat skills to pick. Select the skillful Souschef, the resourceful Scrounger, the mystical Oilist, the hearty Codwalloper, or the magical Rinkydink.
Like Day and Night
The passage of time is a key concern for the Halite Warriors. The immortal snail creeps ever closer to the King, who has hunkered down in his salt-crystal castle, waiting and wondering. Luckily, the heroes will have the opportunity to alter the timer as the hours tick by via collection of items that can be redeemed for some additional breathing room. The world of A Snail's Tale also features a day/night cycle, with characters and events that can only occur in daylight or darkness.
